Private rooms carry an extra daily charge that the cap certificate does not touch, and it can dwarf the rest of the bill. The key point: when the hospital moves a patient to a private room for its own reasons, you can refuse the charge in principle; when the family requests the room, you pay. Read the consent form before signing. Families sign reflexively and absorb fees they never had to accept.
