Handrails, removing steps, and bathroom changes are subsidized to make a parent's home safe, commonly up to ¥200,000 per home. The work must be approved before it starts and runs through the care manager, so a contractor you hire cold will not qualify. From abroad it is tempting to just send money for renovations. Route it through the plan instead, and pair it with rented equipment for the parts that change.
